The Veterans' Place 2nd Annual Bottle Drive
Saturday, May 4, 2024 - 10:00am to 3:00pm05/04/2024 2:00pm
The Veterans' Place 2nd Annual Bottle Drive
Well, winter is running away from us, sugaring is in full swing. And the yard chores are going to start. But Green up day is just around the corner and the Veterans place is doing our 2nd annual bottle drive on May 4 this year. Did you save your returnables all year and wondering what to do. Most don't think much of cans but when residents of multiple towns stop in, even with a bag of ten cans. It all adds up. The location is the same as last year. Kenyon's hardware in Northfield VT. This year we are trying to iron out last years restrictions. We used a little landscape trailer that wasn't that beneficial when transporting. But I would like to ask the community for help with transporting bags. Or possible leads. If anyone has a dump trailer or high sides that would like to help, please reach out. We are fully insured, and I also carry a clean class A. I encourage all who reads this event to share all information on this event. FPF wont let me share in other towns or attach the actual flyers. Please check us out.
Thanks, from our veterans and staff.

https://www.vermontveteransplace.org/
I would like to take this moment to personally thank everyone who donated their old bottles and cans on our first annual bottle drive. All donations went straight to the care of our nation's heroes.
The Board of Directors, our Residents, and our Staff wish to extend our sincere appreciation to all who have given from their hearts. We realize there are many individuals, families, and businesses that are hurting financially right now, so to continue to have such generous friends as yourselves has meant more than you could know.
They come to us as broken men, from living in shelters, on park benches, or under bridges. They carry scars, some visible, many invisible. They are struggling—with nightmares, PTSD, fear, rejection, distrust, loneliness and, quite often, addiction. They weren't always like this. Once they stood straight and tall, proudly wearing the uniform of our country. But war takes a heavy toll that can't just be forgotten.
These men have seen things no one should have to see. They have done things they dare not speak of. They feel desperate and alone in their suffering. They arrive at The Veterans' Place seeking food, shelter, and a warm bed, but they find so much more. A family, to take them in. Comrades in arms, who understand what they have been through. Mentors, to help guide them, restore their dignity, and begin the healing process. Most important, they discover a second chance at life—an opportunity to be part of a community, forge new relationships, change old habits, and regain their status as a contributing member of society. At the Veterans' Place, every soldier's story is unique. Their journey has led them here, to this safe place, where they can recover, rehabilitate, and learn to trust again.
Indeed, even when we are at full capacity, the GPD covers only about 65% of our operating costs because of all the wrap around services we provide for our Veterans, at no cost to them. The rest of our income comes from community organizations, fundraisers, and donors like you. That is why your support is critical during these times. Your gift to the Veterans' Place will put us one step closer to fulfilling our mission of making sure that no Veteran is left behind.
As a combat vet myself, I have learned so much working here. I highly encourage people to take the time to research us, our facility, and the gents who call us home. Current, past, and drop-ins.
Thank you from the staff to the residents.

Poetry Class on Grief
Sunday, May 5, 2024 - 1:00pm to 2:30pm05/05/2024 5:00pm
Poetry Class on Grief
All of our lives are hit at different times with the pain of grief from a variety of causes, grief that we can experience on many different levels. It is important to acknowledge grief when it enters our lives, and to recognize and honor it for others when it arrives in their lives. Sometimes grief comes from a single event—an unexpected or even an anticipated loss—but it can also come in many other ways, including from situations that are on-going and that seem to have no end or solution. Finding meaning and community in each of these times helps to keep the grief in a degree of better balance. Of significant help throughout these times is having a supportive community, or also serving as a part of a community for others who are going through grief. Various stages of grief include: Shock; Denial; Anger; Bargaining; Depression; and Acceptance. Not everyone who grieves experiences all these stages, and these stages don't necessarily happen in any predictable order.
Starting on Sunday, April 7, Randolph professor and poet, Marjorie Ryerson, will conduct four sessions of a poetry-writing class on the topic of grief, classes that are open to anyone who wishes to participate. The classes will meet on April 7, April 14; April 28 and May 5, each time from 1:00-2:30 in the basement of Randolph's Unitarian Church ("Bethany") on Main Street, directly across from Chandler Center for the Arts. If participants wish, the class can continue to meet for a few additional sessions in May. In the classes, members will discuss grief journeys they have experienced or are currently on. They also will talk about the art of poetry and the shaping of idea and emotions into words. And in each class, they will write and will be free to share their poems with each other. When the class concludes, class members will decide whether they individually wish to participate in a public reading of some of the poems they have crafted.
Please bring writing instruments to each class—be it pen/pencil and paper, a laptop, or any other writing tools you prefer. If you are wish to attend this class, please let Marjorie know in advance (water05060@gmail.com) of your interest. But you also are welcome to simply add the classes to your life, once they begin. If you have questions about the class, please send them to Marjorie via that same email address. There is no cost to this class.
