You are invited to help with the annual spring "refresh" of the Chandler flowerbeds on Saturday morning May 18th. Please join us for any portion of the Saturday morning that you're able to do so. Bring your own tools for weeding, trimming, and spreading mulch. A truck bed of mulch will be provided, for the fun part when the beds are clean. Please feel free to bring along any gleanings from your own flower beds. Don't worry about weather: volunteers have done this rain or shine in the past. We're Vermonters. We have rain gear and mud boots! A reply is helpful, especially if you have plants to share or are concerned about the forecast. Please spread the word. Many hands make light work. And happy spring!

If you are a student, you can get free tickets for yourself and your accompanying parent to a special period-instrument performance of J.S. Bach's "St. John's Passion" by Upper Valley Baroque, on the 300th anniversary of its premiere by Bach on Good Friday, 1724. Here's information about the concert. excerpted from Bob Eddy's article in The Herald. One year ago UVB Maestro Filippo Ciabatti thrilled a nearly sold-out Randolph audience, with Claudio Monteverdi's monumental "Solemn Vespers." In February a second large Chandler house responded with a standing ovation to Handel's "Water Music". The 3 PM May 19th concert will be the third collaboration between Chandler and UVB, which began because of the Music Hall's splendid acoustics. Though Bach wrote the "St. John's Passion" to be performed for a church service, says Ciabatti, it shows "a much higher level of theatricality than other church music of his day.We call it a passion, but it really is an oratorio: full of colors, extremely intense and dramatic." The work alternates between telling of the gospel story in recitative and reflecting upon it in chorales and arias, bringing it from the head into the heart. "In this way the Passion becomes immediate, personal. No longer simply a story from the past, it is happening again, now," Ciabatti adds. Join Kimball Library, the Rec Department, Ridgeline, and Walk + Bike + Roll Randolph for Bike Club each Wednesday May 1st - June 12th as we explore bike safety, street riding, and trails around town! Geared towards 5-12 year olds, but anyone who is a confident bike rider and looking to brush up on safe riding techniques is welcome. The 2nd annual Bike to School Day is Wednesday May 8th this year! Participants will be practicing safe riding techniques guided to school by 9am by a group of volunteers, and receive a coupon for a free Creemie from Sweet Scoops. Blues & Beyond originated in the Burlington Vermont area as a collection of players who all attended the "Blues Jams" hosted by the (now) Vermont Blues Society. Guitarist and bandleader Timothy James initiated the concept of taking the music beyond Blues to infuse Jazz, Soul, and Lounge music. Inevitably, dance Rock favorites were added to the mix to create a powerhouse concert and night club experience. Now based in Central Vermont, Blues & Beyond has evolved into a high energy Jam Band writing a big part of their music but still playing their arrangements of favorites from the Modern American Song Book… and yes, Blues !! Blues & Beyond has performed at the Burlington Discover Jazz Fest, Concerts on the Green Maple Tree Place Williston, Leunigs Bistro, On Tap in Essex, Brocklebank Brewing, Strafford Concert Series, SoRo Old Home Days, Off the Rails at Okemo, the Tunbridge Worlds Fair, and other Vermont venues. Bull & Prairie: Drifting from the hills of central Vermont, we share a melodic sound rooted in the ambiguous traditions of indie rock, freak folk, and Americana. We have a broad and strong electric sound that takes these traditions in different, and often interwoven directions. Lyrically our songs often speak to the dichotomies of life; the beauty and the pain that we all experience and share. Derek Sensale: Derek Sensale gives an intimate stage performance of original folk songs, rooted in tradition and generously dusted with Vermont soil. Leaning into the wonders of the natural world, each song is a personal narrative stitched together with melodies ranging from joyful to melancholic.

Our annual Memorial Day Weekend Block Sale! Saturday, May 25th & Sunday, May 26th 9-4. Hebard Hill Road in Randolph ~ just off Rte. 66, less than 2 miles from exit 4 ~ look for the bright signs. Each sale will be numbered -- more details as we get closer!

The School Street Community Garden will be holding a seedling sale at the gazebo in downtown Randolph Village to raise funds for new fencing. Plants for sale are mostly tomatoes, zinnias, and strawberries. They will be priced between $3-5. Tomato varieties offered are: - Brandywine - Glacier - Moskvich - Black Krim - Sweetie (cherry) - Red and Yellow Pear Zinnia varieties are Lilliput and Cut and Come Again. Many of these already have flower buds! These plants are getting quite large in my kitchen so if you'd like to purchase any earlier than Memorial Day Weekend, please contact me!

**Dinnerware on the Wheel Class** Tuesdays 600-830PM | May 21 - July 2 (skipping June 11) Taught by Stephanie Tyler A 6-week series that introduces and explores the skills needed to produce dinnerware on the potter’s wheel. Students will be taught basic throwing, trimming, and glazing skills that they will explore throughout the 6 weeks with group and personalized instruction. Students will be encouraged to thoughtfully design a dinnerware place setting that is both functional and beautiful. Basic throwing skills will be helpful for this series, but class will be fun and a creative space to explore a new project. Cost of class includes 25lb bag of clay, firing of all pieces created and open studio time to practice. Additional clay, if needed, can be purchased. All levels of experience welcome! Tuition - $225/person. A $50 deposit is required to hold your spot and is non-refundable unless the class is canceled by the studio. Class dates may change due to weather - If a class is canceled due to weather, an extra class will be added to the end date to make-up the missed class.
