Garifuna Collective (Belize) Visit Randolph This Week!
The Garifuna Collective from Belize will perform at the historic Chandler Music Hall this Saturday March 28th at 7:00 PM. Part of their 20th Anniversary World Tour, this special concert is your only chance in Vermont to experience the vibrant rhythms and deep cultural heritage of this ensemble.
The Garifuna Collective is a multi-generational group of accomplished musicians rooted in Dangriga, Belize, dedicated to preserving and celebrating the music, language, and heritage of the Garifuna people: an Afro-Indigenous culture whose story of resilience, migration, and creativity stretches across the Caribbean and Central America for over 300 years.
The Garifuna Collective will also be making stops throughout the community, including the Randolph and Brookfield Elementary Schools and Vermont State University in Randolph. These visits will provide a unique opportunity for local youth to learn about the history and culture of the Garifuna people, and to enjoy their music. Elementary students from those schools will also receive free tickets to the concert Saturday night, and are encouraged to bring their whole families.
Sliding-scale tickets for adults and students over 12 are available at chandler-arts.org, by calling 802-728-9878, or at the door. Kids 12 and under are free.
