Fun with Frightening Flash Fiction
This class will focus on writing stories in the format of flash fiction (1000 words or less). This length constraint requires writers to pare down stories to their essentials. Every word counts. As with any creative writing, important elements include characters, setting, dialogue, and vivid details to bring them to life.
Each session will include a brief introductory discussion and will include time to work on a new story. Participants will then regroup and read stories out loud. Reading out loud is a good practice to help improve stories. Constructive feedback (what did listeners like about the story) will be provided and facilitated by the instructors.
The genre will be appropriate for the Halloween season – scary or supernatural stories. However, participants may choose to interpret this in whatever way they want!!
This writing session will be facilitated by two experienced creative writers - Jon Kaplan and Steve Augustus. Jon likes to write short fiction and poetry. Steve is the author of numerous poems and other collections.
Please email Jon at hockeyat50@gmail.com to register. There is no fee for this writing session. The session will be capped at 6 participants.
