WHAT HAPPENS IN THE PRIMARY (AUGUST 11)? A primary is how a political party picks its nominee. You don't have to belong to a party to vote in its primary, any registered voter can take part. You'll just ask for that party's ballot when you vote. Whoever gets the most votes in the Primary moves on to the General Election in November.
