World Class Opera This Weekend at Chandler
Friday, November 14, 2025 - 7:00pm to 9:15pm11/15/2025 12:00am
World Class Opera This Weekend at Chandler
With 'A Bayou Legend' at 7 p.m. this Friday the 14th and 4 p.m. this Saturday the 15th, Opera Vermont and Chandler Center for the Arts begin a collaboration presenting the complete cycle of William Grant Still's operas. This English-language work is a passionate tale of obsession, revenge, and eternal transcendence. It will be performed by world-class singers plus orchestra members from the New England Repertory Orchestra, conducted by Cailin Marcel Manson, who has taken stages from Carnegie Hall to Teatro La Fenice and Notre Dame.
A Bayou Legend inaugurates a groundbreaking multi-year cycle dedicated to honoring the majestic compositions of William Grant Still, known to scholars as "the Dean of African-American Composers." It will be the first time that an opera by a Black composer has been staged in Vermont…but thanks to Opera Vermont and W.G. Still, this will certainly not be the last.
Adult tickets are priced from $25 - $65, with student tickets at $10, and kids 12 and under free. All are available at www.chandler-arts.org or (802) 728-9878, Ext. 104, or at the door.
